Miguel de Cervantes' House

Miguel de Cervantes is a writer, playwright, and a poet. He is known for his book, Don Quixote and grew up during Shakespeare's time. He even died on the same day as Shakespeare, April 1616. We were lucky enough to visit his house.
Cervantes' house was very educational. We experienced what it was like to live in Cervantes and Shakespeare's time. There were many differences between homes today and homes back then. It reminded us that back then, the technology was less advanced. Instead of having a filter with cold water and ice cubes installed in to your refrigerator, people used a bucket and a rope to get water. What else was different is the tiles. The tiles in Cervantes' house were made of porcelain. Today, tiles are ceramic. In his house we couldn't see through the windows because they were so blurry. In our apartment, the windows are clear. How to warm up your food has certainly changed in the past few decades, Cervantes' house has a huge fireplace where he would hang his bowl of food. All we have to do is put our food in the microwave, press a button, then wallah, warm food!
His house was huge compared to our old apartment. As you may have seen from a picture my dad posted about a week ago, our old apartment was awfully small for six people. As I was walking through his house, I was thinking, Wow, this is way bigger then our house in Connecticut! I guess living like sardines squished into a jar can make any small house seem like a mansion.

  1. Is Cervante's house in Barcelona? Someday you should see the play, Man of La Moncha, which is based on Don Quixote. BTW, I LOVE your new apartment which seems so spacious. (at least on Skype)

  2. Aren't you glad you didn't live in Cervantes' time? Too much work! I'm glad you have room to spread out now. Happy to read your post, as always. EP
