When in Rome, Go Back In Time

This weekend my family went to Rome where we had the opportunity to see wonderful sights such as the Colosseum, the Forum, Michelangelo's beautiful artwork in the Vatican, and the Trevi Fountain. We also got to do a bit of shopping, walking around the lovely streets of Rome, as well as, of course, trying some delicious Italian cuisine. Overall, my favorite thing we did was visit the Colosseum because it has such an fascinating history and amazes me with the fact that it's been standing in Italy for about 1,900 years.

The Colosseum  was a huge arena used in Ancient Roman times for people called gladiators who were poor, slaves or criminals, given a chance in a fight to the death for fame and a new life. Surprisingly, they would have 80 props that would pop up to make the show more entertaining for the audience that consisted of rich people in front, poor people, woman and prisoners in the back, and everyone else in between. Interestingly enough, they would have a first act where people watched a woman fight a woman, animals fight, or even a dwarf fighting a one-legged man. It was great to be able to have fun not only learning about history, but also getting the chance to step inside the Colosseum and imagine what it was like to live in ancient times.
