Motorcycles, Music, Sports, and What's Popular in Spain

Wild Birds Here are Calmer Here Than in the U.S.

Life in Barcelona is definitely different than life in America. While the main language in America is English the main language here is Catalan, which is a mixture of Spanish, Italian, and French. While we use dollars Spainiards use Euros. People stay up late here and between two and four the shops close and people go home to eat lunch and take a nap. Spaniards dress up a bit more than Americans and walk a lot more. They walk a lot more because everything is so close together. I noticed a lot of people here drive on motorcycles as well as walk. Kids here get out of school later and usually walk home. The weather here is pretty nice however I still have to wear a jacket.
Even though America and Spain are two completely different places, they have their similarities. For example, I noticed a lot of restaurants and shops here play American music. There are a lot of American shows and movies in Spanish. Soccer is very big here. They have soccer shirts, soccer timers, soccer clocks, soccer everything! The other day a big soccer game was on the TV in a restaurant and the line was out the door! Everyone was coming to watch the game!

If you have any more questions about life in Spain feel free to post them in the comment section and I’ll try to answer them.

  1. Very informative essay, Cassie! Do you know how many grades students there have to complete?

  2. Thank you! People in Spain start school at age six. I think they stop going to school about the same time that we do in America. Apparently the people in Spain go to high school in 8th grade, so, since they start high school earlier, they might end high school earlier as well. Sorry I don't know exactly when students in Spain complete school.
