Easter is quite significant in Catalunya. The week before
Easter is called, Semana Santa, Holy week. Mainly, you go to church or stay
home and apologize to God for your sins (mistakes). One of the many treats they
have here are Gaudi eggs. They are chocolate eggs inspired by Gaudi the
architects work. To make these delectable eggs you simply get a hollow
chocolate egg, melt a hole big enough to put tasty filling such as dulce de
leche, sweet cream, or caramel and wholah! A Gaudi inspired treat. Other foods
around Easter are delicious chocolate eggs, scrumptious pastries, and even
chocolate Barcelona soccer balls.
Our holy week and Easter here were very pleasurable. We were able to see a
procession of Jesus carrying the cross. It was very interesting to go back in
time and experience this. Luckily, the walk wasn’t too far. After this, we had
something special, an Easter pastry! Sofia and I got a mini chocolate cake with
raspberry gel inside with a chocolate piece and raspberry on top, my mom got a
mini chocolate cake also, except with orange inside and topped with orange
chocolate, Cassandra got a slice of addicting carrot cake, and Nolan got a
glazed doughnut topped with chocolate syrup. On Easter morning, we found on the
kitchen table the cutest and professionally done chocolate sculptures.
Cassandra got a chocolate bunny holding a beautifully designed egg, Sofia got a
chocolate cottage with crunchy chocolate steps and Snow White next to it, Nolan
got a life-sized Barcelona soccer ball, and I got a chocolate bear holding
vanilla ice cream. Easter in Catalunya was an experience none of us will
forget.
Very interesting to read about how Easter is celebrated in Barcelona. Loved all the pictures and seeing how the Easter treats are wrapped. Of course, I especially loved the picture of Nolan enjoying his soccer ball. Always fun to read your articles, Olivia.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very colorful pictures, Olivia, and your descriptions. Those treats look amazing. What was the significance of the people in black robes and pointed hoods? Happy Easter to you all. EP
